Know the basics

A - It's all about LIGHT!

Picture
  • The word 'Photography' can be broken down into two parts. 'Photo' means light (like photosynthesis or photon), and 'Graphy' means draw or graph.  So the word 'Photography' literally means 'To draw with light'.
  • Light is the only thing you need to take a photograph.  You don't even need a camera!

B - Shutter Speed
It's how fast or slow the shutter opens and closes to let in light.

60 means 1/60 of a second.  The numbers on your camera represent fractions.

C - f- Stop or Aperture:
The width of the hole in the lens.

D - Film Speed:
Bright light - use an ISO of 400 or less (aka a slower film).

When it's dark - use an ISO of 800 or more (aka a faster film).

BE AWARE!

ISO of 400 or less is good for bright light, and has a smooth finish.

ISO - 100

ISO - 1600

It's a really cool look for music & extreme sports (like skateboarding)

ISO of 800 or more can have grain - look above.
