While entirely outside of my control, as far as I know, I will not be the M.S. 51 photography teacher during the 2021-22 school year.
For the past 12 years, teaching darkroom and digital photography at M.S. 51 has been my absolute pleasure. Sharing the joys of darkroom and digital editing with nearly 1000 amazing growing human beings (many of whom have grown to be incredible adults!), as well as teaching how to capture and manipulate light, has been my life's work.
Together we have collaborated with world-class artists just as JR, hosted Q&As with the renowned Gregory Crewdson, photographed at Green-Wood, and visited museums across the city.
95 of you exhibited in 39 corporate exhibitions through Arts Connection
9 of you exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through PSArt
2 of you exhibited PSArt photographs on billboards in Times Square
14 of you exhibited work at the Brooklyn Borough Arts Festival
7 of you received National Scholastic Art Awards
(A whopping) 105 of you received Citywide Scholastic Art Awards
Additionally, it has been an honor to host all of the families and community members for 22 in-house exhibitions twice a year, boasting between 600 and 800 photographs at every show. I am so proud of your accomplishments.
No matter what happens, I'm deeply dedicated to the students and alumni that make up our community. If anyone needs a letter of recommendation, I'm happy to help - my email is [email protected].
It has been an honor to work with nearly 1000 students in my beloved photo program at M.S. 51.
Thank you for everything.
