What is your extra credit style?

Mrs. Flatow allows students to earn 5 extra credit points by helping out and another 5 extra credit points for working on independent projects each marking period.  That means your grade could be as high as 110 in Photography class!

Sign up for extra credit help and you can get 5 points added to your grade at the end of the marking period!

Who can sign up?
Any photo student during the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th marking period.  During the 1st marking period only 7th and 8th graders can sign up.

How often do I come in?
You sign up for either morning, lunch, or after school.  You come in for your assigned time once a week for that marking period. 

How much extra credit do I get?
5 points each marking period you help out!  You have to come consistently to earn full extra credit.

What will I be doing?
You will be developing student film, organizing the darkroom and computer space, making film, and much much more!

Do I need experience?
Nope!  Mrs. Flatow will teach you everything you need!

Try some of these activities at home or outside of class (some may need adult supervision) for 1 extra credit point each.  Completing these activities, together with "write something" activities, can earn up to 5 extra credit points during each marking period.

Choice 1 - Take a photo of yourself at a museum/gallery with a photography exhibition in NYC and email it to [email protected] for 1 extra credit point.   Make sure to say which exhibit you went to!

Choice 2 - Get a second extra credit point by including a review of the exhibition...see column to the right for more details!

Write Something!

Try some of these writing activities outside of class.  Completing these activities, together with "do something" activities, can earn up to 5 extra credit points during each marking period.

If a photo could talk:
(1 extra credit point)

1. Choose a photo from one of these websites:

  • http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/fsahtml/fahome.html
  • http://www.photoeye.com/gallery/MoreGalleries.cfm
2.  Write (or type) your name, section, and the date at the top of the paper.
3. Write down the Title of the photograph, Name of the photographer, and year the photograph was taken.
4. Cut and paste the photograph onto the paper.
5.  Write at least 10 full sentences that answer this question - "If this photograph could talk, what would it say?"

Museum/Gallery Review:
(2 extra credit points)

1.  Go to a museum/gallery with a photography exhibition in NYC or on your travels.

2.  Write a review with the following information:

  • Write (or type) your name, section, and the date at the top of the paper.
  • Write the name of the gallery/museum, title of the show, location of the museum or gallery, and date that you went
  • Write a paragraph (at least 5 full sentences) about the topic of the show.  What was the show about?  What kind of photographs did you see?  When were they taken?  Did one artist create these photographs?  Did many?  Who were they (if applicable)?  Explain what you actually saw.
  • Write a paragraph about how you FEEL about the show.  Was the work strong?  Why or why not?  Could the work be improved?  Why or why not? 

- Write a paragraph about what you learned from coming to this exhibit.  What would you want to try to experiment with in your own photographs?
